About us and our servicesSouthern Law Services was formed in 1976 by Michael John Southern, a former Thames Valley Police Sergeant. This was the first Private Investigation Company in Reading - initially called Southern Investigation. Since then it has grown into a healthy business gaining the confidence of locally and nationally based solicitors.
In 1997 Colin David Victor Lott retired from Thames Valley Police and entered the private sector of detective investigations, working with Southern Law. In 2001, Colin became the principal of the company, taking over from Michael Southern.
Colin served with the Thames Valley Police and during his police service he worked with Thames Valley Police C.I.D. and was also for 14 years seconded to different departments within the Regional and National Crime squads and the SO10 Department of New Scotland Yard. During his service he received 14 Chief Constable Commendations and numerous Crown Court and High Court Judges' accreditations. On retirement from the Police service. Colin received an Exemplary Conduct Certificate and a long service and good conduct medal. The work that Colin was involved in was mostly of a very sensitive nature and of high security. Achieving many successful results throughout his police career Colin has brought this wealth of experience into the private sector of detective investigations.
